DESCRIPTION CONTINUED AFTER SOUNDS.
Since Point as a Set No. 25 is installed on the UCLA campus, the sculpture is surrounded by lush vegetation, but also streets and sidewalks. Around the artwork, you may smell the scent of freshly mowed grass or even the hot asphalt of the street. You might also notice noise from the traffic nearby or the footsteps of people walking to and from buildings.
Point as a Set No. 25 is part of a more extensive series comprising 41 sculptures ranging in size from “6 inches to 6 feet,” as she describes in a 1971 artist statement. The artwork explores topology in mathematics and spatial concepts related to Einstein’s revelations in physics. To learn more about topology, please listen to the “Point-Set Topology” section.
